Happy New Year!
Have you gotten used to writing 2010 for the year? The beginning of a new decade, do you have plans for your child and how they will face 2010? As we look at 2010, we hope you are encouraged and challenged by the year before us. Maybe 2009 was not a good year but 2010 gives us a new beginning, let's face our challenges with courage. By the way, COURAGE happens to be our word of the month for January.
January has a number of activities: January 18 will be the Martin Luther King Holiday, January 29th will be the end of the grading period. There will be no PTA meeting in January. Looking ahead, February 1 & 2 will be staff development and teacher workdays with no school for students. Report cards will go home on February 5th. Our Benchmark tests for Grades 3, 4 & 5 will take place from February 3 through February 12th.
Just a note about snow. If our snow in December is any indication, we may have some other snow storms in the near future. Parents when school is out for inclement weather, would you encourage your child to read? If they have a book to read that's great, but they can also read the newspaper, magazines, recipes or instruction books, anything to encourage them to read. You could even create a game using words you find in your home.
Again, have a Happy New Year!
