Message from the Principal.

It seems like just yesterday we were beginning the school year and now we only have about a month to go. There are many activities happening at Washington District this month and we hope you will attend as many as possible. You are not only showing support for you child, but also to Washington District and we Thank You!

WD students recently completed division-wide Benchmark Tests measuring their success from the beginning of the school year. These tests serve as a great resource preparing our Third, Fourth and Fifth grades for the upcoming Standard of Learning Tests. Our students in the aforementioned grades will be tested during the week of May 19 - 23, 2008. During the testing window students must be present and on time. Tardy students cannot enter the classroom once testing has started. Late students cannot take the test with the rest of their class. Children are encouraged to get eight to nine hours of sleep each night and have breakfast each morning before the test. Encouraging words from the parent or guardian is by far the best incentive a child can receive before testing or meeting any challenge.

Westmoreland County Public Schools Mission Statement reads, "all meaning ALL, students will achieve academic standards, demonstrate standards of the heart, and make choices that result in a safe and happy life." Westmoreland Schools are promoting increased awareness of this division mission statement by sponsoring a poster contest. All art classes will be participating. The posters designed by students will be his/her interpretation of our mission statement. Art teachers will select 5 posters from each grade level to be entered into the competition. School Board office personnel will select the winning poster from each school that will be incorporated into a banner to be displayed in each building during the 2008-2009 school year.

A friendly reminder: Oak Grove Road is now posted with a 30 mph speed limit. Please adhere to this speed alert. Also, refrain from parking in handicapped parking spaces if you have no authorized tag or license plate. In addition, no one is to be in the bus lane between the hours of 7:30 - 8:30 AM, 2:30 - 3:30 PM and Tuesday & Thursdays 4:00 - 5:30 PM.
